Natures Grub Red Mite & Insect Killer Smoke Bomb – 3.5g

A 3.5g permethrin smoke generator for clearing red mite out of an empty poultry house. Red mite live in the building rather than on the bird — in joints, under perch ends, behind felt and in the gaps around nest boxes — and only come out at night to feed, which is why treating the birds themselves achieves so little. Smoke gets into those cracks, and that is the entire argument for using one.

Natures Grub give the active ingredient as permethrin at 13.25% w/w and put the coverage of a single 3.5g bomb at roughly 2m x 2m x 1.8m, which is a small coop or an ark. Their twin pack is rated for 4m x 2m x 2m. It also takes spiders, cluster flies, moths and cockroaches, so it earns its keep in a feed store or an outbuilding as readily as in a hen house.

Performance & Benefits
  • Permethrin at 13.25% w/w, released as smoke so it reaches joints and crevices a spray cannot.
  • One 3.5g bomb treats approximately 2m x 2m x 1.8m; a twin pack covers 4m x 2m x 2m.
  • Works on poultry red mite, and also on spiders, cluster flies, moths and cockroaches.
  • Treats the structure rather than the bird, which is where red mite actually live between feeds.
  • Small enough to be practical in an ark, a nest box run or a feed store.
<>
Suitable For
  • Empty poultry houses, arks and coops with an established red mite problem.
  • Sheds, feed stores and outbuildings with cluster flies, moths or cockroaches.
  • Buildings that can be shut reasonably airtight for two to three hours.
  • Use as part of a programme alongside a thorough clean-out and a residual powder, rather than on its own.
  • Not for use with birds, pets or any livestock in the building, and never anywhere near a fish tank or a pond.
<>
How to Use
  • Move every bird and animal out of the building first, and remove or cover any fish tanks or bowls.
  • Cover or take out food, feeders, drinkers and anything food touches. Do not treat surfaces where food is stored, prepared or eaten.
  • Shut windows, doors and every opening you can, to make the space as airtight as possible.
  • Stand the bomb on a heat-resistant surface such as an old plate, light the fuse, walk out and close the door behind you.
  • Leave it closed for two to three hours, then ventilate thoroughly before anyone or any bird goes back in.
  • Check the spent bomb is cold before you pick it up, and dispose of it safely.

Care & Caution
  • Wear a safety mask while lighting it, and leave the building immediately afterwards.

  • Never light one with birds, pets or livestock in the building, and ventilate thoroughly before they return.
