Omega Equine Coconut Treats – 4kg
Coconut is the mildest of the three flavours Omega currently make, and the one that tends to win over horses that turn their noses up at mint or a heavy toffee. The nuggets are firm, small enough to hand out several at a time, and come in a 4kg resealable pouch that stands up in a feed room without spilling.
Omega build them on wheatfeed and a high-fibre oat by-product with grass meal and linseed expeller, and declare 15% crude fibre against 12.5% crude protein — a genuinely fibrous treat rather than a sugar lump. Molasses is in there for binding and taste, which is worth knowing if your horse is on a restricted-sugar diet.
<>Performance & Benefits
- Coconut flavour, mild and generally well accepted by fussy horses.
- Built on wheatfeed, high-fibre oat by-product, grass meal and linseed expeller.
- Declared 15% crude fibre and 12.5% crude protein.
- 4kg resealable pouch, so an opened bag keeps and stores flat.
- Nugget size suits hand-feeding, training rewards and hiding a wormer.
Suitable For
- Rewarding, catching and loading horses and ponies.
- Clicker and groundwork training where you need a lot of small rewards.
- Horses that dislike mint or herbal flavours.
- Not the right treat for a laminitic, insulin-resistant or PPID horse on a strict low-sugar diet, because they contain molasses.
Feeding
- Omega's instruction is simply to feed as an occasional treat, for a reward or a bribe.
- Omega publish no maximum daily quantity, so treat these as extras rather than part of the ration.
- Reseal the pouch after use to keep the nuggets firm.
- 4kg pouch.
Composition & Analysis
- Composition: wheatfeed, high-fibre oat by-product, grass meal, linseed expeller, molasses, calcium carbonate, natural flavour.
- Analytical constituents: crude protein 12.5%, crude fibre 15%, crude oils and fats 4%, crude ash 7.25%, sodium 0.06%.
- This page previously carried the composition of Omega's Herbal Treats. The list above is Omega's own for the coconut flavour.
- 4kg pouch. Omega also make a 1kg pack of the coconut flavour.
Care & Caution
- These treats contain molasses. Do not feed them to a horse being managed on a strictly low-sugar diet for laminitis, insulin resistance or PPID without checking with your vet.
- Feed by hand carefully with a horse that snatches, and stop if hand-feeding is making it worse.
