Boswellia serrata is the resin of the frankincense tree, and it has been used on joints for a very long time. The active fraction is the boswellic acids, and Omega specify theirs at 45% — which is the number worth comparing, because boswellia sold without a stated boswellic acid content could be almost anything.

The “Extra” part is the three things fed alongside it. Linseed meal brings omega-3 oils that help a fat-soluble compound get absorbed; ginger adds its own anti-inflammatory compounds; and black pepper is there for piperine, which Omega state increases the absorption of boswellia into the bloodstream. It is a small daily dose — one or two scoops — so a 700g tub runs for roughly a month at the top rate and twice that at the bottom.

Feeding

• Horses: 11.5–23g daily, which Omega give as one to two scoops.
