Five litres of cold-pressed flax oil is between two and six months of daily feeding for one horse, and the size most people settle on once they have decided oil is staying in the ration. Omega press it from dried flax seed without heat, which is what preserves the omega-3 that distinguishes flax from a cheaper vegetable oil.

At Omega's horse rate of 30ml to 90ml a day this container covers roughly 56 to 166 days; on a pony at 20ml to 60ml it stretches to between 83 and 250 days. Kept cool and closed between feeds, it will comfortably see out that span.

Feeding

• Horses: 30ml to 90ml daily.
• Ponies: 20ml to 60ml daily.

• Introduce gradually over a week or two — oil added too quickly can loosen droppings.
• Pour over the feed and mix through. Close the cap firmly between feeds.
