Protexin Equine Premium Gut Bind – 30ml Syringe

Gut Bind is the syringe Protexin make for the day the droppings go loose — kaolin and pectin to bind and to soothe the gut lining, with live Saccharomyces cerevisiae to put the microbial population back. It is an oral paste given straight into the mouth, not something mixed into a feed.

Protexin describe the 30ml syringe as a concentrated two-day course for horses and foals during a period of upset, dosed by bodyweight and repeated every eight hours. Their own instruction sits alongside it and is worth repeating: always seek veterinary advice if your horse or foal has a disrupted gut.

Performance & Benefits
  • Kaolin, a natural binding agent, to firm droppings quickly.
  • Pectin to soothe and coat the gut lining.
  • Saccharomyces cerevisiae at 2 x 10¹¹ CFU/kg, or 2 x 10⁸ CFU per gram, to rebalance the microbiota.
  • Preplex prebiotic from both fructo-oligosaccharide and acacia gum arabic.
  • Refined soya oil base with flavouring at 69,130mg/kg, so it goes in without much of a fight.
  • Graduated syringe, dosed by mouth, so you know exactly what went in.
<>
Suitable For
  • Horses and foals through a bout of digestive upset.
  • Travel, a feed change, or a worming or antibiotic course that has unsettled things.
  • Use alongside veterinary attention, not instead of it.
  • Yard first aid kits and lorry kits.
  • Not a daily supplement — for continuous hindgut support, Protexin Equine Gut Balancer is the powder that is fed every day.
<>
Feeding
  • Horses under 100kg: 5ml per dose.
  • Horses 100–500kg: 10ml per dose.
  • Horses over 500kg: 15ml per dose.
  • Repeat every eight hours.
  • Supplied as a single 30ml syringe, which Protexin describe as a two-day course.

Composition & Analysis
  • Composition: refined soya oil, pectin, fructo-oligosaccharide (Preplex prebiotic), flavouring compounds at 69,130mg/kg.
  • Additives: kaolin, and acacia gum arabic (Preplex prebiotic) E414.
  • Zootechnical additive: Saccharomyces cerevisiae at 2 x 10¹¹ CFU/kg; 2 x 10⁸ CFU/g.
  • Protexin publish no analytical constituents for Gut Bind, so none are stated here.
<>
Care & Caution
  • Protexin's own instruction: always seek veterinary advice if your horse or foal has a disrupted gut. Scouring in a foal is an emergency, not something to manage from the feed room.
  • Gut Bind binds; it does not treat the cause. If the droppings are still loose after a day, or the horse is dull or off its feed, that is a vet call rather than a second syringe.
