Red Horse HydroHoof Hoof Moisturiser – 500ml
HydroHoof is Red Horse's honey-based hoof moisturiser, built around honey, aloe vera gel, sweet almond oil and shea butter with beeswax, vitamin E and bergamot essential oil. Red Horse describe it as soothing dry, cracked or inelastic hooves and rejuvenating withered, dry frogs.
What separates it from a hoof oil is the way it handles water. The formulation is designed to balance moisture rather than seal it in, so horn takes up only what it needs and does not go soft and soggy — the beeswax is there to slow moisture loss, not to varnish the hoof.
<>Performance & Benefits
- Honey-based rather than oil- or tar-based.
- Balances moisture, so the horn absorbs only what it needs without softening.
- Beeswax helps slow moisture loss from the horn.
- Bergamot oil conditions the hoof and helps protect it against external damage.
- Usable on the frog as well as the wall where the frog is excessively hard or dry.
- Soaks in, leaving only a slight surface residue that wipes or polishes off.
Suitable For
- Dry, cracked or inelastic hooves.
- Withered, shrunken or hard, dry frogs.
- Horses coming out of a dry summer, or out of a dry, well-bedded winter box.
- Barefoot horses whose horn has lost its flexibility.
- This is a moisturiser, not a hardener. It is the wrong product for a hoof that is already too soft or too wet.
How to Use
- Brush a thin layer onto the hoof wall and allow it to soak in.
- Use it on the frog only where the frog is excessively hard or dry.
- Red Horse suggest daily use until the horn improves, then extending the interval as appropriate.
- Wipe or polish off any slight surface residue.
Specification
- 500ml tub. Red Horse also make it in 200ml.
- Ingredients: honey, aloe vera gel, sweet almond oil, shea butter, water, beeswax, cetearyl alcohol, vitamin E, bergamot essential oil.
- Red Horse publish no percentage inclusion rates for the ingredients, so none are stated here.
- Some listings describe the bergamot as antibacterial or antifungal. Red Horse make no such claim: their own wording is that it conditions the hoof and helps protect against external damage.
Care & Caution
- Contains sweet almond oil. Keep it away from anyone with a nut allergy.
- Red Horse recommend a patch test before using any of their essential-oil products over a larger area.
