Rowen Barbary Solution Mash – 20kg
Solution Mash is the specialist feed in the range: no cereals, sugar declared at 1.1% and starch at 4.5%, with 15% oil carrying the calories instead. That combination is what lets it put weight on a horse that cannot have a cereal feed, and Rowen Barbary list it for horses and ponies that suffer from laminitis and Cushing's syndrome, and for starch and sugar intolerance.
The rest of the bag is soya hulls, dried grass, Yea-Sacc live yeast and a herb blend of spearmint, garlic and fenugreek, which is where the smell comes from and why fussy feeders eat it. Unlike the other Rowen Barbary mashes it is a 60-minute soak at one part feed to two parts water, not a five-minute one.
<>Performance & Benefits
- 15% oil for slow-release calories without cereal starch.
- Starch 4.5% and sugar 1.1% — the lowest sugar declaration in the range.
- 28.5% fibre, fed soaked, which encourages gradual hindgut digestion and carries water in.
- Yea-Sacc live yeast included to support hindgut fermentation.
- Vitamin E at 500 iu/kg, well above the rest of the Rowen Barbary range.
- Spearmint, garlic and fenugreek for palatability with fussy feeders.
Suitable For
- Horses and ponies that suffer from laminitis or Cushing's syndrome.
- Horses with a starch and sugar intolerance.
- Conditioning and controlled weight gain without a cereal feed.
- Fussy feeders that still need the calories.
- Horses needing extra fluid intake through a wet feed.
Feeding
- Soak for 60 minutes at 1 part dry feed to 2 parts water, or to your preferred consistency.
- This is a much longer soak than the other Rowen Barbary mashes — plan the feed an hour ahead.
- Feed alongside forage, adjusting to condition and workload.
- Split anything over about 2kg across two feeds.
- Supplied in a 20kg bag.

Care & Caution
- At 15% oil this is a high-fat feed. Introduce it over two to three weeks or you will see loose droppings.
- It must be soaked for a full hour. Fed dry or half-soaked, the feed carries on swelling after it has been eaten.
