Scruffs Scandi Non-Tip Pet Bowl – Grey, 20cm

The Scandi is heavy stoneware with a flared foot, and the weight is the whole point: a ceramic bowl of this mass does not get nudged across the kitchen by a dog eating at speed, and the outward flare of the base makes it awkward to tip with a paw. The glaze is hand-dipped grey over natural potter's clay, so the unglazed foot is left as a band of raw clay and no two bowls come out quite alike.

This is the largest of the three Scandi sizes. Scruffs publish it at 20 x 20 x 7cm holding 1.3 litres, which is a full day's water for a large dog or a generous meal for a medium one. The thick stoneware walls hold temperature too, so water stays cooler for longer than it would in a thin steel dish.

Performance & Benefits
  • Heavy stoneware, weighted enough to stay put while a dog eats.
  • Flared non-tip base that resists being knocked over.
  • 1.3 litre capacity in the 20cm size — the largest Scandi bowl Scruffs make.
  • Thick sides keep food and water cooler for longer.
  • Chip and bite resistant glaze.
  • Dishwasher and microwave safe.
  • Hand-dipped finish over natural clay, so each bowl differs slightly.
<>
Suitable For
  • Large and medium breeds, as either a food or a water bowl.
  • Dogs that push a lightweight bowl around the room as they eat.
  • Households that want a bowl through the dishwasher daily.
  • Standing on the Scruffs cork or marble placemats, which are sized for this range.
  • Too large and too deep for a cat or a toy breed — the 14 x 14 x 5cm Scandi at 0.4 litres is the size for those.
<>
How to Use
  • Stand on a level, hard floor, ideally on a placemat to catch splashes.
  • Fill water to just below the rim; the flared foot does the work of keeping it upright.
  • Wash in the dishwasher, or by hand in warm water with a mild detergent.
  • Food may be warmed in the bowl in a microwave — stir it and test the temperature before it goes down.

Specification
  • 20 x 20 x 7cm, 1.3 litre capacity — Scruffs' own published figures for the large Scandi.
  • Heavy stoneware ceramic, hand-dipped grey glaze with an unglazed natural clay foot.
  • Dishwasher and microwave safe.
  • Barcode 5060328827258.
  • Also made at 16 x 16 x 5cm (0.5 litre) and 14 x 14 x 5cm (0.4 litre), and in cream.
  • Some listings, this store's previous copy included, gave the size as 20 x 10.5cm. Scruffs publish 20 x 20 x 7cm at 1.3 litres and that is the figure used above. Scruffs' own site currently offers the Scandi non-tip as a two-bowl bundle; this is a single bowl.

Care & Caution
  • Stoneware chips. Check the rim and foot for chips, cracks or crazing before every use and take the bowl out of service if you find any — a chipped edge can cut a tongue and a loose fragment can be swallowed.
  • Food warmed in the microwave, and the bowl itself, both get hot. Let it stand and stir it before serving.
  • Do not clean with wire wool or abrasive pads; they will scratch through the glaze.
