Scruffs Small Animal Ceramic Set – Colours

Three dolomite pieces that cover the three things a hamster or gerbil needs a hard surface for: a house to sleep in, a sand bath to clean its coat in, and a bowl it cannot tip or chew. The house is the largest in the Scruffs small pet range at 15cm wide, 12.5cm deep and 10cm tall, which is roomy enough for a Syrian rather than only a dwarf.

Dolomite matters here more than the colours do. Rodents gnaw everything, and a plastic house or bowl ends up with chewed edges within weeks; fired ceramic gives them nothing to work on. It is also heavy enough that a gerbil digging underneath cannot overturn the bowl or shunt the sand bath into a corner.

Performance & Benefits
  • Three pieces — play house, sand bath and food bowl — in one set.
  • House 15 x 12.5 x 10cm, large enough for a Syrian hamster.
  • Sand bath 15cm wide x 8.5cm deep x 7cm high for rolling and grooming.
  • Food bowl 7.5cm across and 6cm high, weighted so it cannot be tipped.
  • Dolomite ceramic is nibble resistant and stays cool in a warm room.
  • Bright coloured glaze that shows dirt clearly, so you can see when it needs cleaning.
<>
Suitable For
  • Syrian and dwarf hamsters.
  • Gerbils, which need a sand bath rather than a water bath.
  • Mice and other small rodents.
  • Cages where plastic furniture has already been chewed.
  • Too small for rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas or degus — these are sized for hamster and gerbil-scale animals only.
<>
How to Use
  • Stand all three pieces directly on the cage floor, not on a raised platform or shelf.
  • Fill the sand bath about three quarters full with sand and top it up as it is scattered.
  • Add a little bedding inside the house so the animal can nest.
  • Hand wash only, in warm water. Do not put any piece in a dishwasher.
  • Dry each piece completely before returning it to the cage.

Specification
  • House: 15cm wide x 12.5cm deep x 10cm high.
  • Sand bath: 15cm wide x 8.5cm deep x 7cm high.
  • Food bowl: 7.5cm diameter x 6cm high.
  • Dolomite ceramic. Hand wash only.
  • Scruffs make matching sets in Fruit, Woodlands and Toadstool designs; the Woodlands and Toadstool sets substitute a water well for the sand bath.
<>
Care & Caution
  • Ceramic chips. A cracked or chipped piece leaves a sharp edge that a hamster can cut its feet or mouth on — check each piece when you clean it and take any damaged one out of the cage.
  • These are heavy for the size of animal. Site them on the cage floor so nothing can fall onto a pet from a shelf, and never stack them.
