Simple System Timothy Chop – 15kg

Timothy Chop is nothing but mature Timothy grass, chopped. Cutting late is the whole technique: the later the harvest, the more the sugar drops and the fibre rises, which is why this is Simple System's recommendation when a horse needs a grass chop but cannot have the sugar that usually comes with one.

It is free from straw — worth saying, because straw is the standard way of cheapening a chaff and adding indigestible bulk. Here the low calorie count comes from the maturity of the grass rather than from filler, so a horse gets genuine forage while eating something it can have plenty of.

Suitable For

Feeding

• Introduce gradually over a week, as with any new feed.
• Feed dampened for best results.
• Use up to 1kg per 100kg bodyweight daily — 5kg per day for a 500kg horse.
• Can be mixed in with hay, or offered alongside, to prolong a hay supply.

• Crude protein 4–11%. Crude fibre 25–35%. Crude fat (oil) 1–3%. Crude ash 5–10%.
• Sugar under 10%. Starch under 2%. Digestible energy 8–10 MJ/kg (low).
• Simple System avoid ryegrass entirely, preferring naturally lower-sugar grasses such as Timothy, fescue and mixed native species.
