Veteran Balance+ is the forage balancer Simple System build around sainfoin rather than lucerne, with rosehip for joint support and cooked full fat linseed taking the oil up to 11–13%. It is aimed at older horses and at harder-working ones, where comfort and range of motion matter as much as condition does.

Sugar sits under 3% and starch under 4%, so it suits a horse that cannot take cereal, and the vitamins and minerals arrive in the plants rather than in a synthetic premix. Fed at 100g per 100kg of ideal bodyweight, a 15kg sack lasts a 500kg horse about a month.

Feeding

• 100g per 100kg of ideal bodyweight daily, so 500g for a 500kg horse, split between two feeds.
• Quick soak at 2 to 2.5 parts water to 1 part feed.
• Introduce gradually over a week, as with any new feed.
• A 15kg sack runs roughly 30 days for a 500kg horse.
