Skinner's Field & Trial Puppy Chicken – 2.5kg

A 2.5kg bag is the right size for one puppy: rich food goes stale faster than plain kibble, and a single pup will get through this in two or three weeks. The recipe is Skinner's chicken puppy food, built on poultry meat meal at 30% with dried egg, brewer's yeast and marine algae meal.

Skinner's describe it as a wheat gluten-free recipe and rate it from weaning to about six months, and for bitches in whelp and in milk. At 27% protein and 18% fat it is the densest food in the Field & Trial dry range, so portions are smaller than the volume suggests.

Performance & Benefits
  • Poultry meat meal at 30%, minimum 95% chicken.
  • 27% crude protein with 18% crude fat, at 386 kcal per 100g.
  • MOS 2,500mg/kg and FOS 1,000mg/kg supporting gut flora through weaning.
  • Dried egg and brewer's yeast for digestibility in a young gut.
  • Glucosamine 250mg/kg, chondroitin sulphate 150mg/kg, seaweed and yucca.
  • A wheat gluten-free recipe, with omega-3 at 0.91%.
<>
Suitable For
  • Puppies from weaning to approximately six months.
  • Bitches in whelp and lactating bitches.
  • One-puppy households — 2.5kg is used while it is still fresh.
  • Move on to Field & Trial Junior 2.5kg at around six months.
  • Wheat gluten-free is not maize-free; maize is in it. A puppy reacting to maize wants Field & Trial Puppy Lamb & Rice 2.5kg.
<>
Feeding
  • Four small meals a day at weaning, reducing to three and then two.
  • Skinner's publish their daily amounts as a bodyweight chart rather than a single figure, so work from the guide printed on the bag and adjust to condition.
  • Moisten with tepid water for a very young puppy, reducing the water as the adult teeth come in.
  • Weigh the daily ration. At 386 kcal per 100g, over-feeding a large-breed puppy pushes growth faster than the skeleton should take, so feed to body condition rather than to appetite.
  • Change over gradually, mixing an increasing share of the new food with the old across several days.
  • Fresh drinking water at all times.
