Smart Garden Garden Line – 50m Jute Twine with Dispenser
Fifty metres of jute twine in a dispenser that pays out what you need and holds the rest. It is the standard tool for marking a straight seed drill, and it doubles as the twine you reach for when something needs tying in.
Jute is soft, takes a knot well and rots down on the compost heap, which is why it is still preferred to nylon for anything touching a plant. The dispenser matters more than it sounds: loose twine in a shed becomes a bird’s nest within a fortnight.
<>Performance & Benefits
- 50 metres of jute twine, supplied on a dispenser.
- Pays out and retrieves cleanly, so the line does not tangle.
- Soft texture, easy to knot by hand.
- Natural fibre — it breaks down rather than persisting in the soil.
- Long enough to mark out a full vegetable bed and still leave plenty.
Suitable For
- Marking out straight seed drills and planting rows.
- Tying in beans, tomatoes and herbaceous plants.
- Bundling prunings, canes and kindling.
- Allotments and vegetable gardens where straight rows matter.
- Jute rots, which is the point of it. For a tie that must last outdoors for years, use the Smart Garden Cable Ties 29cm Re-Usable 50 Pack instead.
How to Use
- Pull out the length you need and cut it; the dispenser holds the rest.
- To mark a drill, tie each end to a cane, push the canes in at either end of the row and pull the line taut.
- Draw the drill along the line with the corner of a hoe, then lift the line and sow.
- When tying plants, use a figure of eight so the twine bears on the support rather than the stem.
- Keep the dispenser dry between jobs — jute weakens if it is stored damp.
Specification
- 50 metres of jute twine, supplied in a dispenser.
- Natural, biodegradable fibre.
- Smart Garden publish no breaking strain or twine thickness for this line, so neither is stated here.
