Snowhill Over-Reach Boots – Extra Large, Raspberry

These are the plain rubber overreach boots that live in most tack rooms: a moulded rubber bell that hangs over the hoof and takes the blow when a hind foot catches a front heel. This is the extra large, in raspberry, and it is the size to reach for on a bigger horse or one with a broad, round foot.

The closure is a double touch-tape strap rather than a pull-on. That difference is felt at the gate on a cold morning — a pull-on boot has to be hauled over the hoof, whereas a strap opens wide, goes on over a shoe and comes off one-handed.

<>
Performance & Benefits
  • Moulded rubber bell protecting the heel bulbs and coronet from overreach strikes.
  • Double touch-tape closure, so the boot fastens round the hoof rather than stretching over it.
  • Extra large takes a bigger or rounder foot than the medium and large in the same range.
  • Rubber sheds mud and rinses clean under a tap.
  • Raspberry is easy to spot in a field if a boot comes adrift.
  • Cheap enough that replacing a lost boot is not an event.
<>
Suitable For
  • Horses that overreach at trot or on landing.
  • Turnout, hacking, schooling and travelling.
  • Larger horses and those with a broad, round hoof.
  • Riders who want a boot they can fasten with gloves on.
  • Not the boot for a pony or a neat, narrow foot — the medium in this range fits far better.
<>
How to Use
  • Fit the bell over the hoof with the opening to the back.
  • Fasten both touch-tape straps snugly enough that the boot cannot spin, but not tight against the pastern.
  • Check the fit after the first few minutes of work, and again when you get back.
  • Rinse the mud off after use and let them dry before the next outing.
  • Pull hair and bedding off the touch-tape before it clogs and stops gripping.

Specification
  • Rubber over-reach boot with a double touch-tape closure.
  • Size: extra large. Colour: raspberry.
  • Snowhill Trade Saddlery run a trade-only, login-gated catalogue and publish no public dimensions, weight or material thickness for this boot, so none is stated here.
  • A rubber thickness of 4mm appears on retail listings, including earlier copy on this page. It is not a figure Snowhill publish, so it is not asserted here.
  • Also stocked in large (brown) and medium (turquoise).

Care & Caution
  • Overreach boots rub if they are left on for long periods. Take them off after work or turnout rather than leaving them on overnight.
  • Check heels and pasterns for rubs every time the boots come off, particularly in wet or muddy conditions.
  • A boot fastened too tight restricts the pastern; one fastened too loose spins and rubs. Neither is safe left unchecked.
