Daily Balancer is the entry point to the Spillers balancer range and comes in a 15kg bag rather than the 20kg the rest of the range uses — worth knowing if you are comparing prices per bag. Fed at 500g a day, 15kg lasts a 500kg horse a month.

It exists for the very common horse that holds weight on forage alone. Such a horse needs no calories from a bucket, but it does need protein quality, vitamins and trace minerals that grass and hay do not reliably supply. Daily Balancer covers those without the extras — the live yeast, the joint actives — that push the specialist balancers up in price.

Feeding

• Feed 100g per 100kg of bodyweight daily: 250g for a 250kg pony, 500g for a 500kg horse.
• A Spillers balancer cup holds approximately 250g.
• Feed with a token amount of chopped fibre if your horse eats it too quickly on its own.
• Introduce over about a week and keep forage and clean water available at all times.
