This is the largest sack Supreme make of their guinea pig nugget. At their own feeding rate of 40–50g a day, 10kg is about seven months of food for a single pig, five weeks for a group of six, and a fortnight for a busy rescue.

That arithmetic is the whole decision. The food is identical to the 1.5kg bag — 16% protein, 15% crude fibre, 800mg of vitamin C per kilogram — but vitamin C is an unstable vitamin, and a sack that takes seven months to empty is not the same proposition as one that takes four weeks.

Feeding

• Supreme's rate: an average adult guinea pig needs 40–50g a day.
• Feed fresh vegetables alongside, with good quality hay and clean drinking water always available.
• Decant into a sealed, opaque container rather than leaving the sack rolled down — vitamin C degrades on exposure to air and light, and that is the whole point of this food.
• Store the container somewhere cool and dark, and use the sack within a few months of opening it.
• Introduce it over about a week if you are changing from another food.
