Supreme Science Selective Junior Rabbit Food – 1.5kg

A rabbit does most of its skeletal growing inside the first five months, and what it eats during that window it carries for life. This is Supreme's diet for that period: 17% crude protein and 0.8% calcium on an alfalfa meal base, rather than the Timothy hay base used once a rabbit has finished growing.

Supreme list it for junior rabbits of all breeds up to 20 weeks and beyond, and also for pregnant and lactating does, whose demands look much more like a growing animal's than an adult's. Fibre still sits at 19%, because a young rabbit's gut needs the same bulk an older one does.

Performance & Benefits
  • Crude protein 17% and calcium 0.8%, set for skeletal growth rather than maintenance.
  • Alfalfa meal base, which is where the extra calcium and protein come from.
  • Crude fibre 19%, so gut motility is not sacrificed to the higher protein.
  • Prebiotics (MOS) and yucca extract in the composition.
  • Dried spinach and linseeds included as Supreme list them.
  • Single-component nuggets, so a young rabbit cannot learn to pick and choose.
<>
Suitable For
  • Junior rabbits of all breeds, up to 20 weeks and a little beyond.
  • Pregnant and lactating does.
  • Breeders and rescues raising young stock.
  • Rabbits recovering condition under veterinary advice, where the extra protein is wanted.
  • Not a food to leave an adult rabbit on. Move to Supreme's Science Selective Adult Rabbit, or House Rabbit for an indoor one, once growth has finished.
<>
Feeding
  • Supreme's rate: allow 40–50g per kilogram of bodyweight per rabbit per day.
  • Feed fresh vegetables alongside it, with good quality hay and clean drinking water always available.
  • Hay should be available at all times and unrestricted, even while a rabbit is growing.
  • Move onto an adult food gradually over a week or so rather than in one go.
  • Reseal the bag and keep it dry.
<>

Care & Caution
  • This is a growth food. Left on it past maturity, an adult rabbit takes in more calcium and protein than it needs, and excess dietary calcium is a recognised factor in urinary sludge and bladder stones.
  • Do not use it as a general-purpose food for a mixed-age group; the adults in the group will eat it too.
  • A young rabbit that stops eating or stops passing droppings needs a vet the same day. Gut stasis moves quickly in a growing animal.
