The Buffalo Co. Buffalo Horn – Large, 6–8 inch

A single dried buffalo horn, 6–8 inches long, taken from free-range grass-fed animals and sold one at a time. It is the longest-lasting chew The Buffalo Co. make: a dog that gets through an ear in minutes and a paddywack in an afternoon will still be working at this days later.

Horn keeps a slight flex rather than the glassy brittleness of antler, which is the reason The Buffalo Co. prefer it as a hard chew. The hollow end takes wet food, pâté or a soft spread, turning a chew into a puzzle, and a filled horn frozen overnight stretches the session out further again.

Performance & Benefits
  • One horn, 6–8 inches long, sold singly rather than in a multipack.
  • 100% buffalo horn with nothing else added — no preservatives, chemicals or colours.
  • 80% crude protein and only 3% fat, so it is a lean chew rather than a rich one.
  • Naturally carries calcium and phosphorus from the horn itself.
  • Retains a slight flex, unlike antler, which The Buffalo Co. give as the reason it is kinder on teeth.
  • Hollow centre takes a filling, so the same chew doubles as an enrichment toy.
  • Sustained gnawing helps lift plaque and tartar at the gum line.
<>
Suitable For
  • Large adult dogs and methodical, determined chewers.
  • Dogs that destroy softer chews within a few minutes.
  • Stuffing and freezing for crate rest, car journeys and long evenings indoors.
  • Dogs kept off beef, chicken or lamb — buffalo is a genuinely novel protein.
  • Not for puppies or dogs with worn or fragile teeth; The Buffalo Co. Buffalo Lung Steaks are far softer and suit those dogs much better.
<>
Feeding
  • Offer as an occasional treat alongside a complete, balanced daily diet.
  • Fill the hollow with wet food, pâté or a soft spread to extend the session.
  • Freeze a filled horn overnight; it will last considerably longer that way.
  • Put fresh drinking water down alongside, as The Buffalo Co. ask.
<>
Composition & Analysis
  • Composition: 100% buffalo horn.
  • Crude protein 80%. Crude fat 3%. Crude ash 3%. Moisture 5%.
  • The Buffalo Co. publish no crude fibre figure for the horn, so none is stated here.
  • Free-range, grass-fed buffalo; no artificial preservatives, chemicals or additives.
  • A natural horn, so length within the 6–8 inch band, weight and shape vary piece to piece.
  • Some retail listings call buffalo horn a source of omega-3; The Buffalo Co. make no omega-3 claim for it, and none is made here.
<>
Care & Caution
  • Horn is among the hardest natural chews sold. Supervise, and take it away from a dog that bites down on it rather than gnawing along it — very hard chews can fracture a carnassial tooth.
  • The Buffalo Co. state horn is not fully digestible in large pieces. Remove and discard any fragment small enough to be swallowed whole.
  • Not suitable for puppies, whose teeth are too soft for a chew of this hardness.
