Thunderbrook Healthy Herbal Chaff – 15kg

Healthy Herbal Chaff is dried British meadow grass, chopped, with a light coating of linseed oil and dried chamomile, lemon balm and mint through it. It is the chaff most Thunderbrook feeders build a bucket on — soft enough for a horse with poor teeth, and slow enough to stop a greedy one bolting a balancer down in seconds.

The free-from list is long and it is the reason people buy it: no molasses, no alfalfa, no cereals, no straw, no soya, no wheat, no preservatives, no artificial additives and no GM ingredients. Sugar sits at 4–9% and starch under 2%, with 28% crude fibre at 9.4 MJ/kg.

Performance & Benefits
  • Dehydrated British meadow grass, chopped, with a light linseed oil coat.
  • Chamomile flowers and leaves, lemon balm and mint dried into the mix.
  • No molasses, alfalfa, cereals, straw, soya, wheat, preservatives, artificial additives or GM ingredients.
  • Starch under 2% and sugar 4–9% on Thunderbrook's own analysis.
  • 28% crude fibre at 9.4 MJ/kg — genuinely a fibre feed rather than chopped filler.
  • Slows a horse down, which is the whole point when a balancer is mixed into it.
<>
Suitable For
  • Mixing with Thunderbrook Synergy or Daily Essentials to slow eating and carry the supplement.
  • Veterans, youngstock and horses with poor teeth.
  • Horses with metabolic sensitivities that need low sugar and starch.
  • Fussy eaters — the chamomile, lemon balm and mint do most of the persuading.
  • Not a forage replacement. At these feeding rates it is a carrier, and the horse still needs its hay or grazing.
<>
Feeding
  • Pony around 200kg: 150–300g a day.
  • Cob around 400kg: 200–500g a day.
  • Horse around 600kg: 300–600g a day.
  • Feed dampened.
  • Introduce gradually, and keep fresh water available at all times.
