Thunderbrook Organic Meadow Nuts – 20kg

These are the organic version of Thunderbrook's Meadow Nuts, and the numbers are noticeably different: sugar at 2.1% and starch at 0.9%, against 7% and 1% for the standard nuts. The grass comes off more than a thousand acres of biodiverse, mixed-species organic meadow, warm-air dried, dust-extracted, ground and compressed.

They come out at 10mm rather than the 8mm of the standard nuts, with 8.6% crude protein, 31% crude fibre and 6.9 MJ/kg. Very low sugar, very high fibre, very low energy — which makes them the ones to reach for when a horse's diet has to be kept tight and the forage still has to last through the day.

Feeding

• A 500kg horse in light work: about 0.5kg a day.
• A 500kg horse in medium to hard work: 2.5–5kg a day.
• A 500ml cup holds roughly 340g, which is the easiest way to measure them out.
• Feed dry or soaked, splitting larger amounts across the day.
• Introduce gradually, with fresh water always available.
