TopSpec Lite Feed Balancer – 15kg

Lite Feed Balancer is the one for the horse that lives on air. TopSpec declare it at 9.1 MJ/kg with 15% protein and 6.5% starch — deliberately below the 25% protein and 12.5 MJ/kg of the Comprehensive balancer, because a native or a cob in light work does not need either and will simply carry the surplus as fat.

What it does not cut is the micronutrients. Biotin is declared at 30mg/kg, the same as the full-fat balancers, and calcium 2.4% and magnesium 0.6% match them too. Vitamin E is the one figure that steps down, at 1,000iu/kg against 2,500 in Comprehensive and Performance Lite — a fair reflection of a horse in light work rather than hard.

Performance & Benefits
  • 9.1 MJ/kg and 15% protein — genuinely low-calorie compared with the 12.5 MJ/kg Comprehensive balancer.
  • Biotin still declared at 30mg/kg, giving 15mg a day to a 500kg horse at the recommended rate.
  • Calcium 2.4% and magnesium 0.6%, unchanged from the higher-specification balancers.
  • Vitamin E at 1,000iu/kg, set for a horse in light to medium work.
  • 17% fibre and 6.5% starch, on a base of high fibre oat by-product and dried beet pulp.
  • Balances a restricted grazing or soaked-hay diet in 500g a day, without adding condition.
<>
Suitable For
  • Good doers, natives and cobs in light to medium work.
  • Horses on restricted grazing, a grazing muzzle or soaked hay.
  • Overweight horses being brought down in condition that still need their full vitamin and mineral requirement.
  • Horses and ponies prone to laminitis — TopSpec state Lite Feed Balancer is suitable for them.
  • Not the right choice for a horse currently laminitic or under veterinary treatment for it: TopSpec AntiLam Forage Balancer supplies a higher level of micronutrients and is the one we stock for that.
<>
Feeding
  • Feed 100g per 100kg bodyweight daily — 500g for a 500kg horse, 250g for a 250kg pony.
  • TopSpec's own worked example is 250g per feed, twice a day, for a 15hh cob cross or native good doer in light to medium work.
  • A half-pint mug holds roughly 200g. A 15kg sack lasts a 500kg horse 30 days, or a 250kg pony 60 days.
  • Mix into a small damp feed or a handful of chop. Do not add a bucket of hard feed to carry it.
  • Provide access to a salt lick at all times, and clean fresh water.
<>

  • Typical analysis: protein 15.0%, oil 3.5%, fibre 17.0%, starch 6.5%.
