Woodlodge Edwardian Green Crackle Glazed Pot – 26cm

The crackle glaze is the reason to buy this one. Woodlodge fire the Edwardian cylinder shape with a glaze that crazes as it cools, so the green surface carries a fine network of lines and no two pots come out identical. At 26cm it is the middle size — big enough for a proper plant, small enough to lift and move with one hand when it is dry.

It sits in Woodlodge's Heritage range, which they describe as their flagship line of classic British garden products. Woodlodge list the Edwardian green crackle glaze under code ED4CRGS4 but publish no height, weight or frost rating for the individual sizes, so none is claimed here.

Performance & Benefits
  • 26cm diameter — a working size for a single shrub, fern or seasonal display.
  • Crackle glaze in green, crazed in firing so every pot differs slightly.
  • Edwardian cylinder profile, straighter-sided than a tapered pot so it holds more compost for its width.
  • Glazed inside and out, so it loses less water through the wall than unglazed terracotta.
  • Part of Woodlodge's Heritage range, with matching pieces in white crackle and other Heritage finishes.
<>
Suitable For
  • Ferns, hostas, small shrubs, box and clipped evergreens.
  • Seasonal displays on steps, porches and patio corners.
  • Indoor use as a cachepot over a plastic liner.
  • Gardeners who want a pot with some age to the finish rather than a flat modern glaze.
  • Too small for a standard tree or a mature shrub — the 40cm William Morris pot gives that sort of planting the room it needs.
<>
How to Use
  • Raise it on pot feet so the drainage hole is clear of the ground and water can get away.
  • Crock the base, then fill with a loam-based compost for anything staying in the pot more than a season.
  • Water into the compost, not over the rim, so the glaze does not build up a white deposit.
  • Empty it or move it under cover before a hard freeze if it has been standing in wet weather.
  • Clean the glaze with a damp cloth. No abrasive pads and no wire brushes — the crackle surface marks.
