Woof Wear Contour Head Collar Black L
Woof Wear Contour Head Collar – Black, Large
The Contour Head Collar is built from soft polypropylene webbing with neoprene padding set over the noseband and the poll — the two places a head collar presses hardest when a horse leans back or is tied up. It is a handling and travelling head collar rather than a fashion piece, and the padding is what separates it from a plain webbing collar at the same money.
The headpiece takes two buckles rather than one, so the throat and the cheek can be balanced independently and the noseband sat at the right height without the whole collar sliding sideways. Woof Wear make the Contour in three sizes, listed as Pony, Cob and Full Size; this Large is the Full Size fitting, for an average to large riding horse.
<>Performance & Benefits
- Neoprene padding over the nose and the poll, spreading pressure where a head collar bites.
- Double-buckle headpiece, so both sides can be adjusted evenly instead of pulling the collar crooked.
- Soft polypropylene webbing that stays supple in the cold and does not need feeding like leather.
- Machine washable at 30°C — worth having on a collar that lives in a muddy field.
- Sized to a large riding horse, with enough adjustment to cope with a clipped or unclipped head.
- Matches Woof Wear's Contour Lead Rope in the same colour range.
Suitable For
- Average to large riding horses — Woof Wear's Full Size fitting.
- Leading, tying up, grooming, travelling and general yard handling.
- Horses that lean on a head collar and rub the poll or the bridge of the nose.
- Anyone wanting a washable collar rather than leather.
- Not a breakaway or safety head collar. Woof Wear make no breakaway claim for the Contour, so it is not the collar to turn a horse out in — see Care & Caution below.
- Too big for a cob or a pony; Woof Wear's Cob and Pony fittings are the ones to look at, sold here as Medium and Small.
How to Use
- Adjust the noseband so it sits two fingers below the projecting cheek bone, not down on the soft cartilage of the nose.
- Use both headpiece buckles to level the collar, rather than taking all the adjustment on one side.
- Leave room for a hand's width at the throat so the horse can swallow and flex freely.
- Machine wash at a maximum of 30°C on a gentle spin with non-biological detergent.
- Do not tumble dry and do not dry it in strong sunlight.

Care & Caution
- This is not a breakaway head collar. Woof Wear do not describe it as breakaway and it has no safety release, so we would not turn a horse out in it. A head collar caught on a fence post or a gate latch with nothing to give is a serious injury risk, and a purpose-made breakaway or a field-safe collar is the right choice for turnout.
- Never tie a horse directly to a fixed point through this collar. Tie to a loop of breakable string so something gives before the horse or the fitting does.
- Check the stitching where the webbing meets the buckles and the ring under the jaw. That is where a head collar fails, and it fails under load.
