Woof Wear Ultra Overreach Boot – Black, Medium

The Ultra is the heavy-duty end of the overreach range, and it exists for one animal: the horse that keeps standing on its own front shoes and pulling them off. An overreach boot goes on the front feet and hangs down over the heel, so the hind foot swinging too far forward strikes the boot instead of the heel bulbs, the coronet or the clenches of the front shoe.

What makes this one different is the material. It is 10mm neoprene coated in Kevlar, and it is cut deliberately extra deep to cover the whole shoe, then trimmed to length so it clears the ground on your horse rather than a theoretical one. Woof Wear note that the boot is trusted by UK mounted police, which is the sort of use it is built for. In Medium it fits the front feet of horses of roughly 14.2–15.1hh. Supplied as a pair.

How to Use

• Fit to the front feet, one per foot, and fasten so the boot cannot be rotated round the pastern by hand.
• Stand the horse square and check the clearance at the bottom edge before trimming anything.
• Trim a little at a time with sharp scissors, aiming for the boot to just clear the ground when the foot is loaded. Cut too much and the shoe is exposed again.
• Rinse the mud out after use, or close the straps and machine wash at a maximum of 30°C on a gentle spin with non-biological detergent.
• Do not tumble dry and do not leave in strong sunlight.

• Woof Wear publish overreach sizing as a chart image and retailer versions of it disagree, so measure round the pastern and compare with a boot that fits rather than relying on height alone.

Care & Caution

• A freshly trimmed edge is a hard edge. Check the pastern for rubbing for the first few outings after cutting the boot down, and round the cut off if it is catching.
• Take the boots off after work, wash the grit out and look at the skin at the back of the heel. Mud held against the pastern by a bell boot is a classic cause of scalding.
• Not for continuous, unchecked turnout wear. Deep boots hold water and mud, and need taking off and drying regularly.
