Woof Wear Ultra Overreach Boot – Black, Small

Small is the pony fitting in Woof Wear's overreach range, for the front feet of ponies of roughly 13.2–14.1hh. Small does not mean light duty: this is the same Kevlar-coated 10mm neoprene as the rest of the Ultra range, and ponies are quite capable of standing on a front shoe and levering it half off in a wet field.

An overreach boot works by hanging over the heel of the front foot so that the hind foot, swinging too far forward, strikes the boot rather than the heel bulbs, the coronet or the clenches of the front shoe. The Ultra is cut deliberately extra deep to cover the whole shoe, then trimmed down to the right length for the individual pony. Supplied as a pair.

How to Use

• Fit to the front feet, one boot per foot, and check by hand that it cannot rotate round the pastern.
• Stand the pony square and look at the ground clearance before you cut anything.
• Trim in small stages with sharp scissors so the bottom edge just clears the ground under load. Over-trimming leaves the shoe exposed again.
• Rinse the mud out after use, or close the straps and machine wash at a maximum of 30°C on a gentle spin with a non-biological detergent.
• Do not tumble dry and do not leave in strong sunlight.

Care & Caution

• A cut edge is a hard edge. Watch the pastern closely for the first few wearings after trimming and take the edge off if it is catching.
• Take the boots off after work, wash the grit out and check the skin behind the heel. Mud trapped by a bell boot is a common cause of scalding.
• Not for weeks of unbroken turnout wear. Deep boots hold water; take them off, dry them and check the legs regularly.
