Woof Wear UV Fly Mask without Ears – Black, Extra Small

This is the same mask as Woof Wear's UV Fly Mask with Ears, with the ear covers left off. Some horses will not tolerate anything over the ears and will rub a full mask off within the hour; others are already wearing an ear net or a fly veil under a mask, or simply need the shade around the eyes rather than full coverage. For those, an earless mask stays on when the eared version does not.

The shading is the reason to buy it. Pink eyelids, a bald face and a broad blaze burn in strong sun, and the vision mesh shades that skin while the pony can still see out. XS is sized for small ponies of roughly 12.2–13.1hh, with an XXS below it for the smallest.

How to Use

• Check from the side that the mesh stands clear of the eyelashes and that nothing rests on the eye.
• Fit the strap so the mask is snug but not tight; an earless mask has less to hold it in place, so fit matters more.
• Set the nose seal flat against the face all round without lifting the mask towards the eye.
• Close all straps before washing. Machine wash at a maximum of 30°C on a gentle spin with non-biological detergent.
• Do not tumble dry and do not leave in strong sunlight.

Care & Caution

• Fit around the eye is the safety point. Mesh touching the cornea or the lashes will scratch it, so check the clearance every time you put the mask on.
• Because there is nothing over the ears to steady it, an earless mask can slip. Check it, and the face, at least once a day.
• Wash it regularly — grit trapped in spacer fabric against a bald face is the usual cause of rubs.
• Replace a torn or stretched mask; a slack one will move onto the eye.
