Woof Wear UV Nose Protector – Black, Large

A fly mask shades the eyes and stops there. The muzzle, which on a horse with a blaze or a bald face is often bare pink skin, is left in the sun — and that is the spot that goes red, then scurfy, then cracked and sore by August. This clip-on soft mesh panel extends the shade down over the nose without the horse having to wear a full face mask.

Woof Wear have the mesh independently UV tested to BS EN 13758-1: 2002, and it blocks nearly 60% of UV rays. Large is the biggest of the four sizes; it fits a Woof Wear UV Fly Mask in Large, and Woof Wear state it will also attach to a mask one size up or down, so a Medium or an XL mask will take it too.

Performance & Benefits
  • Blocks nearly 60% of UV rays, independently tested to BS EN 13758-1: 2002.
  • Soft mesh, ergonomically contoured, so it follows the shape of the nose rather than standing off it.
  • Clips onto a Woof Wear UV Fly Mask in Medium, Large or XL — useful if you have masks in more than one size.
  • Adds nose cover without committing to a heavier full-face mask.
  • Can be used for turnout or riding.
  • Machine washable at 30°C.
<>
Suitable For
  • Horses wearing a Woof Wear UV Fly Mask in Large — also fits Medium and XL masks.
  • Pink, unpigmented muzzles, blazes and bald faces that burn every summer.
  • Big horses with long noses, where a smaller protector leaves the end of the muzzle exposed.
  • Turnout through the brightest part of the season, and riding out in strong sun.
  • It is an add-on, not a standalone item — it does nothing without a Woof Wear UV Fly Mask to clip onto.
  • If your mask is a Small or smaller, the Medium or Small nose protector is the one to buy.
<>
How to Use
  • Clip the protector to the attachment points on the underside of the nose section of the mask.
  • Check the mesh lies against the nose without pressing on the nostrils or restricting airflow.
  • Make sure adding it has not pulled the mask itself upwards into the eye — refit the mask if it has.
  • Check the attachment points every time you fit it, and again when you take the mask off.
  • Machine wash at a maximum of 30°C on a gentle spin with non-biological detergent. Do not tumble dry or leave in strong sunlight.

Care & Caution
  • Nearly 60% of UV blocked is not all of it. A muzzle that is already burnt, or a horse with a photosensitivity problem, needs shade and veterinary advice rather than a mesh panel alone.
  • Check the nose and nostrils daily. Anything sitting on a muzzle can rub, and sore skin under a protector is worse than sunburn.
  • Do not fit it so tightly that it presses the nostrils. Horses breathe only through the nose.
  • Take the whole mask off and inspect the face at least once a day.
