Woof Wear UV Nose Protector – Black, Medium

Sunburn on a horse's nose is not a cosmetic issue. Unpigmented pink skin on a muzzle blisters, scabs and cracks, and once it is sore the horse resents having a head collar or a bridle put on at all. A fly mask covers the eyes but stops short of the nose, which is exactly where the damage happens. This clip-on mesh panel carries the shade down over the muzzle.

The mesh is soft and contoured rather than stiff, blocks nearly 60% of UV rays, and has been independently tested to BS EN 13758-1: 2002. Medium fits a Woof Wear UV Fly Mask in Medium, and Woof Wear state it will also attach to a mask one size up or down, so a Small or a Large mask will take it.

Performance & Benefits
  • Blocks nearly 60% of UV rays, to independent test standard BS EN 13758-1: 2002.
  • Soft, contoured mesh that follows the nose rather than sitting rigidly off it.
  • Clips to a Woof Wear UV Fly Mask in Small, Medium or Large.
  • The commonest size, matching the Medium mask most riding horses take.
  • Usable for turnout and for riding.
  • Machine washable at 30°C.
<>
Suitable For
  • Horses using a Woof Wear UV Fly Mask in Medium — also fits Small and Large masks.
  • Pink muzzles, blazes and snips that burn in summer sun.
  • Horses that have burnt their noses before and go sore every year.
  • Turnout in strong sun, and riding out at midday.
  • An accessory only — it will not work without a Woof Wear UV Fly Mask to attach to.
  • If your mask is XS or XXS, buy the Small or XS nose protector instead.
<>
How to Use
  • Clip the protector to the fixing points under the nose section of the mask.
  • Check the mesh rests on the nose without pressing the nostrils closed or reducing airflow.
  • Confirm the mask has not been dragged upwards towards the eye by the extra weight.
  • Inspect the clips each time you fit it and each time the mask comes off.
  • Machine wash at a maximum of 30°C on a gentle spin with non-biological detergent. Do not tumble dry or dry in strong sunlight.

<>
Care & Caution
  • Nearly 60% is not total protection. A muzzle that is already burnt, or a horse with suspected photosensitivity, needs shade and a conversation with your vet, not just mesh.
  • Check the nose and nostrils every day. A protector that rubs a sore muzzle does more harm than the sun was doing.
  • Never fit it tightly enough to press on the nostrils — horses cannot breathe through their mouths.
  • Remove the mask and protector daily to look at the skin underneath.
