Woof Wear UV Nose Protector – Black, Extra Small

XS is the smallest nose protector Woof Wear make, for the smallest ponies and the smallest masks. It clips onto a Woof Wear UV Fly Mask in XS, and because Woof Wear allow the panel to attach one size up or down it will also fit an XXS or a Small mask — which covers every mask size a Shetland, a Welsh Section A or a small Dartmoor is likely to be in.

Its job is straightforward: fly masks shade the eyes and stop above the nose, and on a pony with a bald face or a broad blaze the pink muzzle left in the sun is what burns and cracks. This soft mesh panel carries the shade down over it. Woof Wear have the mesh independently tested to BS EN 13758-1: 2002 and it blocks nearly 60% of UV rays.

How to Use

• Clip the panel to the fixing points under the nose section of the mask.
• Check the mesh sits on the muzzle without pressing on the nostrils — a small nose has small nostrils and little margin.
• Confirm the mask has not been dragged up towards the eye once the panel is on.
• Check the clips before and after every use.
• Machine wash at a maximum of 30°C on a gentle spin with non-biological detergent. Do not tumble dry or leave in strong sunlight.

Care & Caution

• Nearly 60% of UV blocked is partial protection. A muzzle that is already sore, or a pony with suspected photosensitivity, needs shade and veterinary advice rather than mesh alone.
• Check the nose and nostrils every day. On a small pony there is very little clearance around the nostrils.
• Do not fit it tight against the nose. Ponies breathe through the nose only.
• Take the mask and panel off daily and look at the skin underneath before refitting.
