Ancol Stormguard Softshell Dog Coat – Bordeaux, Medium (40cm back)

The Stormguard Softshell is the light end of Ancol's waterproof range: a shell with no fleece lining, made for warm rainy days when a dog needs to stay dry but does not need warming up. In Medium it is cut for a 40cm back length, measured from the base of the collar to the base of the tail.

The detailing is what separates it from a plain cape. A chest protector carries the coat forward under the throat and brisket, which is where most of the mud arrives. Elasticated leg straps stop it riding up on the move, reflective edging tape follows the seams, and a harness slot lets a lead reach a harness worn underneath.

Performance & Benefits
  • Waterproof outer shell that keeps rain off without adding bulk or heat.
  • Chest protector shields the underside from mud, dirt and spray — the part most coats leave open.
  • Elasticated neck and elasticated leg straps hold the coat in position at speed.
  • Reflective edging tape improves visibility in poor light.
  • Harness slot gives lead access to a harness worn under the coat.
  • Machine washable at 30°C, so a muddy coat is a wash rather than a scrub.
<>
Suitable For
  • Dogs measuring 40cm from collar to base of tail.
  • Mild, wet weather and showery days — spring and autumn rather than deep winter.
  • Dogs walked in a harness, thanks to the slot.
  • Keeping a groomed or long-coated dog clean on a muddy walk.
  • If your dog measures nearer 35cm along the back, Ancol make an S/M; nearer 50cm, take the Large. For a cold wet day rather than a warm one, the fleece-lined Ancol Stormguard Dog Coat is the warmer choice.

How to Use
  • Measure the back length from the base of the collar to the base of the tail with the dog standing square, and buy to that figure rather than to breed.
  • Fasten at the neck first, then the belly, then bring the elasticated straps around the hind legs.
  • Leave enough slack at the neck for two fingers, and check the leg straps sit clear of the groin.
  • Feed the lead through the harness slot to a harness underneath rather than clipping it to the coat.
  • Machine wash at 30°C and air dry naturally.

Care & Caution
  • Machine wash at 30°C and air dry. Do not tumble dry or dry near a radiator or stove — heat degrades the waterproof coating.
  • The harness slot is for lead access to a harness underneath. Never clip a lead to the coat itself; no part of a coat is load-rated.
  • Unlined, so it turns rain but adds almost no warmth. On a cold wet day put a fleece jumper underneath or use the fleece-lined Stormguard.
  • Check the elasticated leg straps for rubbing behind the elbows and in the groin, especially on a short-coated dog.
  • Take the coat off indoors. A wet shell left over a damp coat keeps a dog damp.
