Ancol Timberwolf Leather Lead – Sable, 1m x 1.9cm
A metre is the standard walking length, and it is the one to buy if you are only buying one lead. It gives a dog room to be a foot or two ahead on a path without letting it wander into a road, and it is long enough to shorten in the hand when you need the dog close. Cut from top-grain bridle leather, made in the UK, and sewn down both sides with industrial bonded nylon thread.
At 1.9cm wide it is a substantial strap rather than a thin lace, which matters as much for the hand as for the dog — a wide leather lead does not bite into your palm when a dog checks at the end of it. Ancol rate it for dogs up to 50kg. Sable is the warm mid-brown, and it matches the Timberwolf collars.
<>Performance & Benefits
- 1m long, the general-purpose walking length.
- 1.9cm wide, comfortable in the hand under load.
- Top-grain bridle leather, made in the UK.
- Sewn down both sides with industrial nylon bonded thread.
- Rated by Ancol for dogs up to 50kg.
- Softens to the hand with use rather than staying stiff or going brittle.
Suitable For
- Everyday walking with dogs up to 50kg.
- Pairing with a Timberwolf leather collar in the same sable.
- Handlers who want a lead comfortable to hold for an hour without gloves.
- Paths, parks and pavements where a metre of length is about right.
- Close heelwork in traffic, at shows or in gundog work wants something shorter — the same lead is made at 60cm x 1.9cm, and we stock it.
- Not the lead for a dog that swims on most walks; nylon such as the Ancol Viva Padded Lead handles repeated soaking better.
How to Use
- Clip to a properly fitted collar or harness and hold the loop over the thumb, not wrapped round the wrist.
- Shorten by taking a fold in the hand rather than by knotting the leather.
- Let a new lead soften over the first fortnight of use before judging it.
- Wipe mud off with a damp cloth and let it dry naturally.
Specification
- 1m long, 1.9cm wide.
- Maximum dog weight 50kg.
- Top-grain bridle leather with industrial nylon bonded thread, made in the UK.

- Ancol publish no trigger hook material and no breaking strain beyond the 50kg rating, so neither is stated here.
Care & Caution
- Do not saturate the leather. Natural dye can transfer to hands, clothing and a light-coloured coat while it is wet.
- If it soaks through, air dry it away from direct heat. Radiators and hairdryers make leather brittle.
- Condition with a suitable leather conditioner about once a year and store it dry.
- Check the stitching and the trigger hook spring before use, and replace the lead if either has gone.
- Not a lead to leave on an unattended dog, and not a tether.
