Ancol Timberwolf Leather Lead – Sable, 60cm x 1.9cm
This is the short lead in the Timberwolf range: 60cm rather than the usual metre, and 1.9cm wide, the same substantial strap. Sixty centimetres puts the dog at your knee and keeps it there. That is not a compromise, it is the point — a traffic lead, a ring lead, a lead for a busy pavement or a station platform where a metre of slack is a metre too much.
Cut from top-grain bridle leather, made in the UK, sewn down both sides with bonded thread. Ancol rate it for dogs up to 50kg, the same as the 1m version. If you want one lead for general walking, buy the metre; if you already have that and want something for close work, this is the one.
<>Performance & Benefits
- 60cm long — close control with no slack to manage.
- 1.9cm wide, the same strap as the full-length Timberwolf lead.
- Top-grain bridle leather, made in the UK.
- Sewn down both sides with bonded thread.
- Rated by Ancol for dogs up to 50kg.
- Short enough to carry rolled in a coat pocket.
Suitable For
- Traffic work, crowded pavements, public transport and stations.
- Gundog work and show ring handling, where the dog stays at the knee.
- Large, strong dogs that are easier to steer on a short lead.
- A second lead alongside a longer one, for the parts of a walk that need control.
- Not for general walking or free-ranging on a path — 60cm gives a dog almost no room, and the Ancol Timberwolf Leather Lead Sable 1m is the everyday length.
- Not for a dog that swims on most walks; the Ancol Viva Padded Lead in nylon copes with soaking better than leather.
How to Use
- Clip to a properly fitted collar or harness and hold the loop over the thumb rather than round the wrist.
- Expect to walk with the dog at your knee — there is no length to feed out.
- Let new leather soften over the first couple of weeks before judging the feel.
- Wipe mud off with a damp cloth and let it dry naturally.
Specification
- 60cm long, 1.9cm wide.
- Maximum dog weight 50kg.
- Top-grain bridle leather, made in the UK, sewn down both sides with bonded thread.
- Sable. The Timberwolf lead is also made at 1m x 1.9cm, and in blue, mustard and pink.
- Ancol product code 115000.
- Ancol publish no trigger hook material and no breaking strain beyond the 50kg rating, so neither is stated here.
Care & Caution
- A 60cm lead leaves no room to absorb a lunge. On a strong dog, brace before it hits the end rather than after.
- Do not saturate the leather — natural dye can transfer to hands, clothing and a pale coat while it is wet.
- If it soaks through, air dry away from direct heat. Radiators and hairdryers make leather brittle.
- Condition once a year with a suitable leather conditioner and store it dry.
- Check the stitching and the trigger hook spring before use, and replace the lead if either has gone.
- Not a tether, and not a lead to leave on an unattended dog.
