Ancol Tough Coffee Grounds Ropey Rugby Tugger

The rugby-ball version of Ancol's coffee grounds tugger — an oval of natural rubber blended with recycled coffee grounds, on a rope. Ancol call it the Coffee Rugby Ball. The oval is the reason to choose it over the round one: dropped or thrown, it kicks off sideways instead of rolling true, so a dog has to read the bounce rather than simply run in a straight line.

The compound is firm yet flexible, letting teeth sink in without easily puncturing or tearing it, and the textured surface gives a mouth something to grip. Ancol give it as 11 x 5cm and aim the coffee grounds toys at smaller dogs and puppies, so it is a small-dog toy despite sitting in the Tough range.

Performance & Benefits
  • Natural rubber blended with recycled coffee grounds, diverting spent grounds from waste.
  • Oval shape gives an unpredictable bounce, which makes a chase last longer.
  • Rope lets you tug and throw without your hand going near teeth.
  • Firm yet flexible rubber — teeth sink in without easily puncturing or tearing it.
  • Textured surface encourages natural chewing and holds a dog's attention.
  • Supplied in widely recyclable, plastic-free packaging.
<>
Suitable For
  • Smaller dogs and puppies, which is who Ancol size the coffee grounds toys for.
  • Dogs that enjoy chasing an unpredictable bounce.
  • Tug games with an owner, and carrying by the rope.
  • Steady chewers rather than destructive ones.
  • Not for a determined power chewer or a large breed — the Ancol Tough Super Barbell Plate or the Ancol Tough Baton are the sturdier choices we stock.
<>
How to Use
  • Hold the rope, let your dog take the ball, and keep tugs low and level.
  • Bounce it on grass for the sideways kick; on hard ground it is harder for a dog to judge safely.
  • Wash with warm soapy water as required and allow to dry fully before reuse.
  • Retire it once the rope frays badly or the rubber splits.
<>
Specification
  • Ball 11 x 5cm, rugby-ball shape, on a rope.
  • Natural rubber blended with recycled coffee grounds.
  • Ancol product code 991754, from the Playtime Tough range.
  • Widely recyclable, plastic-free packaging.
  • Ancol publish no proportion of coffee grounds, and their listing describes only the rubber ball — no rope length or rope fibre is given, so none is stated here. Ancol quote the same 11 x 5cm across all three coffee grounds toys.

Care & Caution
  • Not indestructible. Dogs should always be supervised during play.
  • Check the toy regularly for signs of wear and remove it immediately if it is damaged or if parts become detached.
  • Rope is not for unsupervised chewing. Swallowed strands can gather in the gut and cause serious problems, so put this away between sessions.
  • Trim off and discard long loose strands rather than letting a dog pull them free.
