Ancol Viva Adjustable Dog Collar – Black, 30–50cm (Size 2–5)

At 30–50cm this is the middle of the three Viva adjustable collars and by some distance the most widely useful. Twenty centimetres of adjustment takes in most of the dogs people actually own — cockers and springers, border collies, Staffords, and Labradors at the lighter end of the breed.

Ancol number it size 2–5, which is their own collar scale rather than a breed size, and one piece of poly-weave webbing covers the whole span. Black is the colour to choose if you want the collar to disappear into a dark coat, or if you are buying one collar to go with every lead in the cupboard.

Performance & Benefits
  • Twenty centimetres of adjustment, 30cm to 50cm at the neck — Ancol size 2–5.
  • Poly-weave webbing, described by Ancol as lightweight and weatherproof.
  • Quick-fit and release buckle rather than a pin buckle, so it comes off in a second.
  • Sliding adjuster sets any length in the range, not just the positions a punched hole allows.
  • Rated by Ancol for swimming as well as walks.
  • Machine washable at 30°C.
  • Widely recyclable, plastic-free packaging.

Suitable For
  • Medium breeds measuring 30–50cm at the base of the neck.
  • Spaniels, collies, Staffords, whippets, and Labradors of average build.
  • Adolescent dogs of large breeds, still filling out towards their adult measurement.
  • Households wanting one collar that copes with a winter coat and a summer one.
  • Under 30cm, the 20–30cm size 1–2 Viva adjustable collar is the right one — we stock it in black, blue and red. Over 50cm, go to the 45–70cm size 5–9 collar.
  • Between 45cm and 50cm the two ranges overlap. Both will fit, but this collar is near the end of its adjustment there, so the 45–70cm size 5–9 collar is the better buy for a neck in that band.

How to Use
  • Measure round the base of the neck, where the collar sits against the shoulders, with a soft tape.
  • Ancol's size numbers are their own collar scale, not a breed size. Size 1 is 20–26cm, 2 is 26–31cm, 3 is 28–36cm, 4 is 35–43cm, 5 is 39–48cm, 6 is 45–54cm, 7 is 50–59cm, 8 is 55–63cm and 9 is 59–68cm.
  • "Size 2–5" means the collar adjusts across the span those four sizes cover. Ancol quote the working range as 30–50cm, and that figure takes priority over the size numbers if the two seem to disagree.
  • Buckle it on and draw the free end through the slider until two fingers fit flat between webbing and neck — Ancol's own fitting rule.
  • Re-check the fit after a groom or a clip; a coat can account for two or three centimetres.
  • Machine wash at 30°C. Do not bleach, tumble dry or dry near direct heat, and let it dry fully before refitting.

Care & Caution
  • Check the buckle for hairline cracks every few weeks. It is the part that fails, and on a 30–50cm dog there is real weight behind it.
  • A collar is not a tethering point. Do not tie a dog up by it or leave it clipped to anything unattended.
  • Replace the collar if the webbing frays where it passes through the slider.
  • Take it off for crate time and for rough play with another collared dog.
