Ancol Viva Exercise & Travel Harness – Purple, Large (60–85cm)

A 60–85cm chest girth in purple. On a double-coated dog that range matters more than the label suggests, because a Collie, a GSD or a Husky can gain two or three centimetres of apparent girth between August and January. A harness set to a summer coat will sit tight over a winter one, and a harness set in February will hang loose by June — loose enough, on some dogs, to reverse out of.

So measure over the coat the dog is actually wearing, and buy the size that leaves you slack to give away. This is one of only two purple Viva harnesses we hold, alongside the small; the other sizes come in black, blue and red. Everything else is Ancol's standard build: poly-weave webbing, soft air-mesh lining, one reflective band.

How to Use

• Measure the deepest part of the chest, just behind the front legs, over the coat as it is now, and check it falls within 60–85cm.
• Fasten the girth strap behind the elbows and close the neck opening down.
• Two fingers should slide flat under the webbing, and no more — through the coat, not over it.
• Recheck the setting when the coat starts to come out in spring, and again as it thickens in autumn.
• For car use, attach a separate tether such as Ancol's ISOfix Seatbelt, item 741600, to the harness. It is not included.
• Ancol publish no wash temperature; rinse in cool water and air dry away from direct heat.

• Some retail listings describe a padded chest section and two lead clips. Ancol publish neither, so neither is claimed here.

Care & Caution

• A harness set over a heavy winter coat becomes a loose harness once the coat drops. Re-measure and reset it seasonally.
• A correctly fitted harness must not allow the dog to back out of it — the commonest cause on a double-coated dog is adjustment left over from a thicker coat.
• Ancol sell this as an exercise and travel harness and list it under travel, but publish no crash test, no safety standard and no vehicle-restraint rating for it. Do not assume crash protection.
• Ancol describe no dedicated seatbelt loop on the harness, and no vehicle tether is included; a tether is a separate purchase.
• Ancol's own instruction for their ISOfix Seatbelt is that it must be attached to a suitable harness and never to a collar, and that it does not replace a crash-tested harness.
• Used with a seatbelt, a harness restrains the dog rather than protecting it in a collision. Ancol claim restraint, not protection.
• Dry the harness fully before storing it, and check webbing, stitching and buckles for fraying or cracks.
