Size 5 fits necks of 39–48cm. What makes this one worth choosing over a leather collar of the same size is water: Ancol describe the poly-weave webbing as weatherproof and put swimming on the list of things the Viva range is meant for, which no leather collar can honestly claim. A dog that goes into a river four times a week is a dog that should not be wearing leather.

Wet use does need a routine, though. Rinse the mud and salt out rather than letting it dry in, wash it at 30°C when it needs it, and let it air dry all the way through — the padding stays damp for a while after the webbing feels dry. Skip that and you get the smell rather than a failure, but the smell is what people notice.

How to Use

• Measure the base of the neck and choose on the figure.
• Adjust to two fingers of clearance beneath the webbing.
• After sea or river walks, rinse in fresh water before it dries.
• Machine wash at 30°C maximum when it needs more than a rinse. No bleach.
• Do not tumble dry. Air dry fully — the padding takes longer than the webbing.
