Ancol Viva Padded Lead Black 1m x 19mm
Ancol Viva Padded Lead – Black, 1m x 19mm
Nineteen millimetres is the wider of the two 1m Viva leads, and Ancol rate it for dogs up to 50kg against 20kg for the 12mm. That extra 7mm is the whole reason to choose it. Width is what decides how a lead behaves under load: a wider strap spreads the same force across more of your hand, so a Labrador that spots a squirrel registers as a firm pull rather than a burn across the fingers.
It also gives the stitching more to hold. Every seam on a lead is a row of thread across the webbing, and a 19mm seam is simply longer than a 12mm one. For a dog that walks well the difference barely shows; for a dog that leans, checks and lunges, it is the difference between a lead that lasts three years and one that lasts one. Both widths are the same metre of length — you are buying strength, not reach.
<>Performance & Benefits
- 19mm width, which Ancol rate for dogs up to 50kg.
- Wider webbing spreads pull across more of the hand than the 12mm does.
- Longer seams than the narrow version, with more thread carrying the load.
- Cushioned neoprene padded handle on top of that.
- 1m length, weatherproof poly-weave webbing, satin-finish snap hook.
- Machine washable at 30°C; plastic-free, widely recyclable packaging.
Suitable For
- Dogs from around 20kg up to 50kg, on Ancol's published guidance.
- Strong pullers and dogs that lunge at distractions.
- Labradors, Springers, Staffords, larger Collies and crossbreeds of that build.
- Handlers who want a lead they can hold hard without it hurting.
- A light, well-mannered dog under 20kg is better on the Ancol Viva Padded Lead Black 1m x 12mm — less bulk in the hand for no loss of control. Above 50kg, Ancol make a 25mm width that we do not stock.
How to Use
- Clip the snap hook to the collar loop or harness ring and check the gate has shut.
- Padded handle over the wrist, hand closed on the webbing below it — never wrapped round the palm.
- Leave slack. One metre absorbs very little, so the give has to come from your arm.
- Machine wash at 30°C, no bleach, no tumble drying, no direct heat, then air dry fully.

- Ancol product code 135910.
- Ancol publish no fibre composition and no breaking strain or trigger strength for this lead, so none is stated here. The 50kg figure is Ancol's own suitability guidance.

Care & Caution
- Check the snap hook and the stitching either side of it before every walk. A wider lead does not make a tired hook safe.
- Not a tie-out or tether — a 50kg-rated lead still fails when a dog hits the end of a fixed line.
- Not a chew toy.
- No tumble drying and no radiator drying; heat hardens the webbing and the neoprene.
