Ancol Viva Reflective Rope Dog Lead – Black, 1.07m x 12mm

At 12mm this is the thicker of the two Viva rope leads, and Ancol rate it for dogs up to 50kg — labradors, boxers, shepherds, bull breeds and anything else that can put real weight behind a shoulder. The length is the same 1.07m as the 10mm; the whole difference between them is the diameter of the rope.

Dropping a thickness to save a couple of pounds is a poor economy on a strong dog, and not mainly because of breaking strain. A thin lead cuts into the hand, so you grip it harder than you meant to and let go later than you should. A thicker rope lies across the palm and gives you something to close a fist around, which is what actually keeps a dog on the pavement. If yours is 30kg or more, or an enthusiastic 25kg, this is the one to buy.

Performance & Benefits
  • 12mm poly-weave webbing, 1.07m long, in a round rope section that fills the hand.
  • Ancol rate this thickness for dogs up to 50kg.
  • Reflective weave through the webbing for low light and evening walks.
  • Satin-finish trigger hook for a collar or harness ring.
  • Weatherproof and still light for its thickness; Ancol include swimming in its uses.
  • Leather-effect finishing at the handle and the hook end.
<>
Suitable For
  • Strong, heavy and large-breed dogs up to 50kg, on Ancol's own guidance.
  • Dogs that pull or lunge, where a thin lead would be uncomfortable to hold.
  • Winter walks along lit roads, where headlights do the work.
  • Wet, muddy conditions and dogs that swim.
  • More lead than a small or light dog needs — the Ancol Viva Reflective Rope Dog Lead Black 1.07m x 10mm is lighter in the hand for dogs up to 30kg.
<>
How to Use
  • Clip the trigger hook to the D-ring of a properly fitted collar or harness.
  • Handle loop over the wrist, slack gathered in the hand. Never wrap the rope round your fingers or wrist twice.
  • Tug the hook against the ring after clipping to confirm the gate has closed.
  • Wipe clean with a damp cloth and let it air dry naturally.
  • Do not bleach, tumble dry, or dry it in direct heat.

Care & Caution
  • Reflective is not the same as illuminated. The weave needs a light source falling on it — on unlit ground, add a lit collar band or a clip-on light.
  • Look over the stitching, the leather-effect trim and the trigger hook before each walk and replace the lead at the first sign of wear.
  • A rope lead running through a closing hand will burn the palm. With a dog this size, gloves are a reasonable precaution.
  • Not a tether. Do not tie the dog up by it or leave it clipped to anything unattended.
