Baileys Aqua-Aide Electrolyte Supplement – 3kg
Aqua-Aide replaces the salts a horse loses in sweat — sodium, potassium, chloride, magnesium and calcium — with dextrose making up 44% of the powder to carry them across the gut wall. Sodium is declared at 4.06%, potassium at 3.75% and chloride at 9.29%, so the salts are present in something close to the proportions sweat takes them out in.
It is apple-flavoured and designed to be given in water rather than dry in a feed: two 15g measures into a litre, and a litre offered for every twenty minutes of actual sweating time, ideally inside the hour after work. Supplied in a 3kg tub.
<>Performance & Benefits
- Replaces sodium, potassium, chloride, magnesium and calcium together, not sodium alone.
- Dextrose at 44% plus sucrose to drive absorption rather than simply supplying the salts.
- Apple flavouring, so most horses will drink the made-up solution.
- Declared analysis of sodium 4.06%, potassium 3.75% and chloride 9.29%.
- Enclosed 15g scoop, so the dose is repeatable rather than guessed.
- Given in water, which replaces the fluid alongside the salts.
Suitable For
- Any horse that sweats in training or in competition.
- Horses that will not help themselves from a salt lick.
- Horses prone to tying-up, or needing support for normal muscle function.
- Working in hot or humid conditions, and long travel days.
- Not one to feed routinely to a laminitic or insulin-resistant horse given the 44% dextrose — a plain salt lick is the safer daily sodium source for those.
Feeding
- Two enclosed measures, 30g, per litre of water. One scoop holds 15g.
- Offer one litre of made-up solution for every twenty minutes of actual sweating time.
- Give it ideally within an hour of finishing work, when uptake is at its best.
- Always offer plain fresh water alongside the electrolyte water, never instead of it.
- Baileys publish no dry, in-feed rate for Aqua-Aide, so none is stated here.
Composition & Analysis
- Composition: dextrose (44%), sucrose, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, magnesium sulphate heptahydrate, potassium citrate, calcium citrate, apple flavouring.
- Crude ash 19%. Sodium 4.06%. Potassium 3.75%. Chloride 9.29%. Calcium 0.4%. Magnesium 0.16%.
- Baileys publish no protein, oil or fibre figure for Aqua-Aide, which is consistent with a mineral and sugar powder rather than a feed.
- Baileys publish no pack sizes on their product page; this is the 3kg tub.
- Baileys state no BETA or FEI approval for this supplement.
Care & Caution
- Never give electrolytes to a horse with no access to plain water. Salts draw fluid into the gut, so water has to be available alongside.
- 44% dextrose plus sucrose makes this a high-sugar product. Use it for genuine sweat losses, not as a daily top-up for a laminitic or insulin-resistant horse.
- A horse that refuses the flavoured water still needs to drink. Offer plain water first and do not withhold it to force the solution down.
