Baileys Everyday High Fibre Mix – 20kg
The Everyday High Fibre Mix is the most economical coarse mix Baileys make and the one aimed squarely at the horse that does not do very much: 10 MJ/kg, 16% fibre and 9.5% protein, fully balanced with vitamins and minerals so it does not need a balancer on top of it.
It carries no whole oats — the cereal is micronised barley, wheat and maize — and the fibre comes from oatfeed, wheatfeed and nutritionally improved oat straw. Starch is 29%, which is high for a low-energy feed and is the figure worth checking before you buy. Supplied in 20kg.
<>Performance & Benefits
- Fully balanced, so the vitamins, minerals and salt are already in the bag.
- 10 MJ/kg and 9.5% protein, low enough for a horse in little or no work.
- 16% fibre from oatfeed, wheatfeed and nutritionally improved oat straw.
- No whole oats. The cereals are micronised, which cooks the starch for better foregut digestion.
- Soya oil brings total oil to 4%, enough to keep a coat looking well.
- The most economical mix in the Baileys range.
Suitable For
- Horses and ponies at rest or in light work.
- Horses with low energy requirements that still need a properly balanced ration.
- Owners who want a mix rather than a cube, at a sensible price.
- Feeding a small, consistent amount the year round.
- Not for a laminitic, insulin-resistant or PPID horse at 29% starch — Baileys No.26 Senior Soft & Lite or Baileys Keep Calm Mash are the low-starch feeds we stock.
Feeding
- Feed alongside forage, by weight. One level Stubbs round bowl holds about 1.5kg of this mix.
- Baileys cap a meal at 0.5kg of mix per 100kg bodyweight — 2.5kg for a 500kg horse.
- Total meal size, chaff and beet pulp included, should stay within 1.5–2kg for a horse or 1.25–1.5kg for a pony.
- Split the day's ration across at least two feeds.
- Baileys publish their per-workload rates on the bag rather than on their website; their nutrition line will set a rate.
Composition & Analysis
- Composition: oatfeed, micronised barley, wheatfeed, micronised wheat, nutritionally improved oat straw, molasses, micronised maize, micronised peas, extracted sunflower meal, soya oil, calcium carbonate, sodium chloride, vitamins and minerals, calcined magnesite.
- Digestible energy 10 MJ/kg. Protein 9.5%. Oil 4.0%. Fibre 16%. Ash 7.5%.
- Starch 29%. Sugar 5%.
- Supplied in a 20kg bag; Baileys publish no bag weight on their own product page.
- Baileys state no BETA or FEI approval for this mix.
Care & Caution
- Starch is 29%. This is not a suitable feed for a horse with laminitis, insulin resistance, PPID or a history of tying-up.
- Stay inside Baileys' 0.5kg per 100kg bodyweight meal limit; a large cereal meal pushes undigested starch through to the hindgut.
- Change over from another feed across a week to ten days rather than overnight.
