Baileys Keep Calm Mash – 20kg

Keep Calm is a quick-soaking mash built on micronised unmolassed beet pulp, soya bean hulls and micronised linseed. It goes from dry to soft in about ten minutes at two parts water to one part feed, and faster still with warm water, so it does not need putting on to soak the night before.

Starch is 7% and sugar 4.5%, which is where the name comes from — 11 MJ/kg of energy without the cereal that makes some horses sharp. Digest Plus scFOS prebiotic goes in at 4g/kg, and the essential oil flavours give it a smell that gets most fussy feeders interested. Supplied in 20kg.

Suitable For

• Horses at rest or in light to moderate work.
• Horses that need low starch and sugar alongside high fibre.
• Fussy feeders with moderate energy requirements.
• Older horses, and any horse with poor dentition.
• Not an out-and-out conditioning feed — a thin horse needing weight quickly is better on Baileys No.4 Top Line Conditioning Cubes.

Feeding

• Soak in roughly two parts water to one part Keep Calm Mash for about ten minutes. Warm water speeds it up.
• One level Stubbs round bowl scoop holds about 2kg of dry, unsoaked mash.
• Feed by the dry weight of the feed, not by the volume of the soaked mash.
• Baileys cap a meal at 0.5kg per 100kg bodyweight, dry weight — 2.5kg for a 500kg horse.
• Make it up fresh for each feed and do not leave soaked mash standing in warm weather.
• Baileys publish their per-workload rates on the bag rather than online; ring their nutrition team for a rate.
