Baileys No.20 Slow Release Condition & Competition Mix – 20kg
No.20 is Baileys' reduced-starch conditioning and competition mix: micronised barley and wheat carried alongside superfibres — soya hulls, alfalfa and oat straw chaff, ground beet pulp — with oil pushed up to 10%. That combination gives 13 MJ/kg with starch held to 22%, rather than the 32% a straight conditioning mix runs at.
It also carries added L-lysine and DL-methionine, the two limiting amino acids for muscle development, plus Digest Plus scFOS prebiotic and micronised linseed. Baileys aim it at horses that need condition and competition energy but get wound up on cereal. Supplied in 20kg.
<>Performance & Benefits
- 13 MJ/kg with starch at 22% — competition energy without a full cereal load.
- 10% oil, the highest of the Baileys conditioning mixes, for slow-release calories.
- Superfibres — soya hulls, ground beet pulp, alfalfa and oat straw chaff — behind the 12% fibre.
- Added L-lysine and DL-methionine, the limiting amino acids for muscle and topline.
- Micronised linseed for omega fatty acids and coat quality.
- Digest Plus scFOS prebiotic for hindgut support.
Suitable For
- Working horses that need condition and topline improving.
- Horses held to a reduced-starch diet that still have real energy requirements.
- Performance horses that do better on a gradual calorie release.
- Stress-prone or sensitive horses with reasonable energy needs.
- Still 22% starch, so not a laminitic or insulin-resistant horse's feed — Baileys No.24 Ease & Excel Cubes at 8% starch are the alternative we stock.
Feeding
- Feed by weight alongside forage. One level Stubbs round bowl holds about 1.3kg of this mix.
- Baileys cap a meal at 0.5kg of mix per 100kg bodyweight — 2.5kg for a 500kg horse.
- Keep total meal size within 1.5–2kg for a horse or 1.25–1.5kg for a pony, chaff and beet pulp included.
- Introduce over ten days to a fortnight; 10% oil needs a gut that has adapted to it.
- Baileys publish their per-workload rates on the bag rather than online; their nutrition team will set a rate.
