Bed-Down Excel Horse Bedding – 20kg

One of the original purpose-made horse beddings, developed over 45 years ago. Excel blends straw and shavings, which takes the comfort and volume of straw — cheap to build a deep bed with — and adds the absorbency that straw alone lacks.

The fresh lemon scent keeps the stable smelling clean and, more usefully, acts as a deterrent to bed eating, which is the usual objection to any straw-based bed. Wet collects into small, easy-to-remove patches rather than spreading, so mucking out is quick and less bedding goes out with the muck.

<>
Performance & Benefits
  • Blend of straw and shavings, combining comfort with absorbency.
  • Fresh lemon scent keeps stables fresh and discourages bed eating.
  • Free draining — wet collects into small, easy-to-remove patches.
  • Quick and easy to muck out, saving time and bedding costs.
  • Comfortable, cushioned bed, safe and supportive for horses of all ages.
  • Developed with over 45 years of experience.
  • 20kg bale, easy to handle.
<>
Suitable For
  • Horses and ponies of all ages.
  • Use on rubber mats or traditional stable floors.
  • Horses that pick at a plain straw bed.
  • Yards wanting a deep, cushioned bed economically.
<>
How to Use
  • Initial stable setup: 5–6 bales for a 12 x 12 stable.
  • Maintenance: add 1–2 bales per week depending on your horse's needs.
  • Remove wet patches daily and top up rather than replacing the whole bed.
  • Bank the sides to reduce the risk of a horse becoming cast.
<>
Specification
  • Composition: blend of straw and shavings with a natural lemon scent.
  • Pack: 20kg bale. Also available as a 24 bale pallet.
<>
Care & Caution
  • Store bales off the ground and under cover.
  • The lemon scent discourages bed eating but will not stop a determined bed eater. A shavings-only or hemp bedding is the safer option there.
