Bizzy Horse Bizzy Lick Refill – Apple, 1kg
This is the 1kg apple lick that drops into the Bizzy Ball, the hard plastic stable toy a horse noses around the box to get at the lick inside. The ball turns a lick from something a horse hoovers up in an evening into something it has to work at, which is the entire point when a horse is stabled, box-rested or standing in over winter.
Bizzy Horse make the refills in several flavours and suggest changing flavour to keep a horse interested, which is sensible — a toy a horse has solved stops being enrichment. Apple is the usual starting point. The lick is sold on its own here, so you need the Bizzy Ball to use it.
<>Performance & Benefits
- A 1kg lick refill sized for the Bizzy Ball.
- Apple flavoured, the most widely accepted of the Bizzy Horse flavours.
- Turns a lick into an activity: the horse has to move the ball to get at it.
- Refilling the existing ball costs less and wastes less plastic than buying a new toy.
- Bizzy Horse suggest swapping flavours between refills so the toy stays interesting.
Suitable For
- Stabled horses and ponies, particularly on long winter nights.
- Horses on box rest, where boredom is the hardest part of the job.
- Horses with stable vices such as weaving, box walking or door banging.
- Travelling and time spent at shows waiting between classes.
- Only usable with the Bizzy Ball — this is a refill, not a standalone lick, and there is no holder in the pack.
Feeding
- Drop the refill into the Bizzy Ball following the instructions that came with the ball.
- Put the ball on the floor of a clean, bedded box rather than hanging it.
- Offer it for a few hours at a time rather than leaving it down permanently, so it keeps its novelty and the intake stays controlled.
- Take the ball up and rinse it when the lick is finished.
- Fresh water and forage at all times alongside.
Composition & Analysis
- Bizzy Horse publish no composition and no analytical constituents for the Bizzy Lick refills on their own website, so none is stated here.
- No sugar, starch, molasses or calorie figure is published either. The declaration on the pack is the only source.
- Refill weight 1kg, as given by Bizzy Horse.
- Bizzy Horse sell the refill as Bizzy Lick Apple; it is listed here under the Bizzy Bites name the ball is sold as.
Care & Caution
- Because Bizzy Horse publish no sugar or starch figure, check the pack declaration before giving this to a laminitic, insulin-resistant or Cushing's horse, or to a pony on a restricted diet. Licks of this type are usually sugar-based.
- Use it in the Bizzy Ball, not loose on the floor, where a horse can break lumps off and bolt them.
- Check the ball each time for cracks or sharp edges and stop using it if it splits.
- Take the ball out of a box shared with a horse that guards food, and out of a field where several horses could squabble over it.
