British Horse Feeds Fibre-Beet – 20kg

Fibre-Beet is Speedi-Beet flakes blended with alfalfa nuts and oatfeed pellets, plus cane molasses, vegetable fat, biotin and peppermint. Soaked, it makes a soft mash a horse with worn teeth can manage, and it carries water into the gut alongside the fibre — which is half the reason for feeding it.

British Horse Feeds' own analysis puts it at 22% crude fibre and 45% NDF with 3% starch and 5% total sugar, and 11 MJ/kg of digestible energy. It absorbs at least three times its own weight in water, so a modest dry scoop turns into a full bucket.

Performance & Benefits
  • Speedi-Beet flakes, alfalfa and oatfeed — three fibre sources rather than beet alone.
  • 22% crude fibre and 45% NDF, at 3% starch and 5% total sugar.
  • Digestible energy 11 MJ/kg, released slowly as fibre rather than quickly as starch.
  • Absorbs at least three times its own weight of water, so it hydrates as it feeds.
  • Soaks in 15 minutes in hot water, or 45 minutes in cold.
  • Biotin and peppermint included. British Horse Feeds describe it as an ideal fibre source for horses and ponies prone to laminitis.
<>
Suitable For
  • Veterans and horses with poor teeth that can no longer chew long fibre.
  • Horses on reduced forage, or being brought back into condition.
  • Horses that need water taken in with the feed.
  • Ponies prone to laminitis, on British Horse Feeds' own guidance.
  • If it is oil and protein you are after rather than fibre bulk, British Horse Feeds Cooked Linseed is the thing to top-dress with instead.
<>
Feeding
  • Always soak before feeding. Never feed it dry.
  • Soak 1 part Fibre-Beet to 3 parts water by weight — roughly 1 part product to 1½ parts water by volume.
  • 45 minutes in cold water, or 15 minutes in hot water.
  • As a forage replacer, feed 250g dry weight per 100kg bodyweight.
  • Replacing hard feed, swap a third to a half of the ration for Fibre-Beet, to a maximum of 1kg dry weight per 100kg bodyweight.
  • Make it up fresh each day.
<>
Composition & Analysis
  • Composition, in descending order: Speedi-Beet flakes, alfalfa nuts, oatfeed pellets, cane molasses, vegetable fat, biotin, peppermint.
  • Typical analysis, fresh weight before soaking: dry matter 90.0%, protein 10.0%, oil 3.0%, crude fibre 22.0%, ash 10.0%.
  • NDF 45.0%. Starch 3.0%. Total sugar 5%.
  • Digestible energy 11.0 MJ/kg. 20kg sack.
  • British Horse Feeds state that biotin is included but publish no inclusion rate on their typical analysis sheet, so none is stated here.
<>
Care & Caution
  • Fibre-Beet must be fully soaked before it is fed. Dry beet pulp swells after it is swallowed and is a genuine choke and colic risk.
  • Give it the full time — 45 minutes cold or 15 minutes hot. Some listings say 10 minutes in warm water; British Horse Feeds' own figure is 15.
  • In warm weather soaked feed ferments quickly. Soak only what will be eaten that day and throw away anything sour.
