Canagan Grass Fed Lamb Dry Dog Food – 2kg
Lamb is the whole of the meat content here: freshly prepared lamb at 47.8%, dried lamb at 8% and lamb gravy at 1% — about 56% lamb in total, with no other land animal in the list. That is as close to a single-protein kibble as Canagan get, and it is the recipe to reach for when chicken and beef have both been ruled out.
Two things stop it being a true single-protein diet and are worth knowing before you buy: salmon oil at 2.7% and dried egg at 0.5%. Crude protein is 31% at 382 kcal per 100g, the lowest energy density of the standard Canagan dry dog recipes, and DL-methionine is added at 2,800 mg/kg.
<>Performance & Benefits
- Freshly prepared lamb 47.8% with dried lamb 8% — roughly 56% lamb in total.
- No chicken, turkey, duck, beef or game in the composition.
- Crude protein 31%, crude fat 16%, at 382 kcal per 100g.
- Omega 3 at 0.96%, ahead of omega 6 at 0.8% — unusual in a meat-led kibble.
- Glucosamine and MSM at 570 mg/kg, chondroitin sulphate at 410 mg/kg.
- DL-methionine added at 2,800 mg/kg.
Suitable For
- Puppies and adults — Canagan label Grass Fed Lamb For Puppies & Adults.
- Dogs being taken off poultry, beef or game.
- Dogs that do better on a less energy-dense food at 382 kcal per 100g.
- A 2kg bag as a trial before moving to the 6kg or 12kg size.
- Not a strict single-protein diet — salmon oil at 2.7% and dried egg at 0.5% are both in it. For a dog reacting to fish or egg, Canagan's Insect Protein recipe uses black soldier fly larvae and no salmon oil beyond 1.2%.
Feeding
- Canagan's adult guide, in grams a day for maintenance and for active dogs: 5kg 80g/100g, 10kg 120g/150g, 15kg 150g/190g, 20kg 200g/240g, 30kg 290g/350g, 40kg 370g/420g, 50kg 450g/540g.
- Puppy portions run by expected adult weight: 65–90g a day for a toy breed, 145–180g for 5–10kg, 215–255g for 10–25kg and 375–430g for 25–45kg, tapering back to adult rations from around a year.
- Change over across a week: a quarter Canagan on day one, half by day three, three quarters by day five, all of it by day seven.
- Cut the ration by 10% if the dog carries too much weight and raise it by 10% if it carries too little.
- A 2kg bag covers about sixteen days for a 10kg dog on maintenance.
- Keep fresh water available and reseal the bag after each meal.
