Canagan Puppy Free-Range Chicken – 6kg

The 6kg bag is the middle size of Canagan's puppy food and the one that fits most single-puppy households. A dog expected to finish between 10kg and 25kg eats 215–255g a day across the bulk of its growth, which works out at three to four weeks a bag — long enough to be economical, short enough that the last handful is as good as the first.

The recipe itself is unchanged across all three bag sizes: 55% chicken, 38% crude protein, and calcium and phosphorus set at 1.4% and 1% for a growing skeleton. Glucosamine and MSM come in at 820 mg/kg each with chondroitin sulphate at 600 mg/kg.

Performance & Benefits
  • Free-range chicken at 29% freshly prepared plus 26% dried — 55% chicken altogether.
  • 38% crude protein and 17% crude fat, at 393 kcal per 100g.
  • Calcium 1.4% and phosphorus 1%, the pair that matter most in a growth diet.
  • Glucosamine and MSM at 820 mg/kg each, chondroitin sulphate at 600 mg/kg.
  • Prebiotic fructooligosaccharides, psyllium, camomile, marigold and cranberry.
  • One food from weaning to adult, with no change of recipe in between.
<>
Suitable For
  • Puppies expected to reach 10–25kg as adults — the 6kg bag matches their intake well.
  • Single-puppy households that would not finish a 12kg sack while it was fresh.
  • Puppies from weaning through to the age Canagan set for moving to adult food.
  • Owners feeding a grain-free diet who want the puppy version of the same range.
  • A litter of large breed puppies will go through this in days — the 12kg sack of the same recipe is the one for that.
<>
Feeding
  • Canagan set the ration by expected adult weight, not current weight. For 5–10kg adults: 145g a day at 2–3 months, 165g at 4–5, 180g at 6–7, 165g at 8–9 and 145g at 10–11 months.
  • For 10–25kg adults: 215g, 235g, 255g and 255g at 8–9 months, easing to 235g and then 215g at 12–13 months.
  • For 1–5kg adults: 65g, 85g, 90g and 85g, dropping to 65g at 10–11 months before adult food.
  • For 25–45kg adults: 375g, 395g, 415g and 430g, then 415g, 395g and 375g through to 14–15 months.
  • Introduce gradually over a week, adjust by 10% either way on condition, and keep fresh water available.

Care & Caution
  • A complete food for growth needs no calcium, bone meal or mineral top-up, and adding one can do real harm to a developing skeleton. Feed it as it comes.
  • Canagan's puppy chart runs only as far as an expected adult weight of 45kg, so owners of giant breeds should take veterinary advice on the ration rather than extrapolating from the table.
