Canagan Salmon & Herring Supper Wet Dog Food – 400g
The only fish recipe among the Canagan 400g cans: 35% freshly prepared salmon with 30% freshly prepared MSC certified herring. For a dog that cannot have poultry or red meat, this is the can that takes both off the plate at once, and the MSC certification on the herring is Canagan's own declaration rather than a marketing line added afterwards.
Read the analysis before you switch, because this can is not simply the beef recipe with fish in it. Moisture is declared at 80% and crude protein at 8.5%, both the highest and the lowest figures in the range respectively, so a dog fed on this alone will want rather more of it than of the meat cans.
<>Performance & Benefits
- 65% fish: freshly prepared salmon (35%) with freshly prepared MSC certified herring (30%).
- Contains no poultry and no red meat, so it doubles as an exclusion diet.
- Crude protein 8.5% on 80% moisture — the wettest and least protein-dense of these cans.
- Crude fat 7.9%, so it is not a low-fat option despite the light protein figure.
- The only can in the range with added vitamin A rather than vitamin D3, at 3,000 IU/kg, plus copper at 2 mg/kg.
- Green lipped mussel declared as a source of glucosamine at 100 mg/kg.
Suitable For
- Adult dogs off chicken, beef, lamb and other meats.
- Dogs on an exclusion trial where fish is the protein being tested.
- Dogs whose owners want a fish feed with a traceable, certified source on the herring.
- Use as a complete meal or as a strong-smelling topper to tempt a poor eater.
- Not the can to choose if you are counting fat or feeding a large dog on wet alone — at 8.5% protein and 80% moisture you will get through more tins than with Canagan British Braised Beef.
Feeding
- Canagan's adult guide, in 400g cans a day: toy 1–5kg a quarter to half a can; small 5–12kg half to one and a half; medium 12–25kg one and a half to two and three quarters; large 25–45kg two and three quarters to three and three quarters; giant 45–70kg three and three quarters to five and three quarters.
- Expect to feed at the upper end of the guide, since this is the wettest of the cans.
- Introduce over a week: 25% Canagan on day one, half and half on day three, 75% on day five, all Canagan by day seven.
- Canagan advise adjusting by 10% either way if your dog is carrying too much or too little condition.
- Serve at room temperature, water alongside, and refrigerate leftovers for up to two days.
