Canagan Scottish Salmon Dry Dog Food – 12kg

The 12kg bag is Canagan's largest in the salmon recipe, and at 398 kcal per 100g it is also their most energy-dense dry dog food. A 30kg dog on maintenance takes 290g a day, so the bag covers about six weeks; an active 40kg dog on 420g gets four. The recipe is unchanged from the 2kg and 6kg bags.

The distinguishing fact is what is absent. Four fish supply all the animal protein — Scottish salmon, herring, trout and white fish — and there is no chicken, turkey, lamb, beef or egg in the composition at all. Omega 3 sits at 2%, where Canagan's chicken foods declare between 0.44% and 0.48%.

Performance & Benefits
  • Fish-only animal protein: 30.5% fresh Scottish salmon, 12.2% dried herring, 6.6% fresh trout, 5% dried salmon, 2% dried white fish.
  • Omega 3 at 2% — around four times the level in Canagan's poultry recipes.
  • 398 kcal per 100g, the highest energy density in Canagan's dry dog range.
  • Crude protein 29%, crude fat 17%, crude ash 9.5%, calcium 1.64%.
  • Grain free, using sweet potato, peas and potato, with sunflower oil rather than poultry fat.
  • 12kg brings the cost per day well below the 2kg bag for a large dog.
<>
Suitable For
  • Large dogs and multi-dog households that will get through 12kg while it is fresh.
  • Dogs with itchy skin or a dull coat, on a long trial rather than a fortnight.
  • Dogs that have reacted to poultry, lamb or egg — none of those appear in this recipe.
  • Puppies as well as adults; Canagan formulate it for all life stages.
  • Not right for a dog that reacts to fish, and at 398 kcal it is not a reducing diet — Canagan Free-Run Chicken Light/Senior at 372 kcal is the one for that.
<>
Feeding
  • Adult maintenance under an hour of exercise: 200g at 20kg bodyweight, 290g at 30kg, 370g at 40kg, 450g at 50kg.
  • Active adults over an hour a day: 240g at 20kg, 350g at 30kg, 420g at 40kg, 540g at 50kg.
  • Puppies expected to reach 25–45kg: 375g at two to three months, peaking at 430g at eight to nine months, tapering to 375g by fifteen months.
  • Introduce across seven days in Canagan's four steps rather than switching outright.
  • Store the open bag cool and sealed — the fish oils in this recipe go off faster than poultry fat does.
