The recipe is Carnilove's sterilised-cat formula: 39% crude protein carried on 3,613 kcal/kg, so the cat gets the protein without the calories that come with it in a standard adult food.

Lamb and wild boar are proteins most cats have never eaten, which is the second reason to pick it — a cat part-way through a food trial has somewhere left to go. Turkey hydrolysed protein at 8% is the one poultry ingredient, so it is not a poultry-free diet.

Feeding

• Carnilove's guide by bodyweight: 2–3kg 30–45g a day; 3–5kg 45–65g; 5–7kg 65–80g; 7–9kg 80–90g.
• Split across two or more meals and adjust to body condition rather than to appetite.
• Change over gradually across a week or so.
• Fresh water always available — it matters on any dry diet.
